Tile is an excellent heat conductor
That means if the room is cool, so will be the floor. When you walk in the room barefoot, it will transfer that chilliness to your body.
Alabama is classified as humid subtropical and the summers get extremely hot, so Alabama residents will appreciate this benefit.

Different types of ceramic tile
Mix and match these to create your one-of-a-kind design. Just be sure they coordinate well. They include:
Note: Be sure to choose a tile that is marked as "appropriate for floor or wall use."
- Porcelain. A kind of ceramic, porcelain includes clay, glass, and sand. It is heavier, more durable, and completely waterproof, whether or not it’s glazed. It can be used outside and on walls, as well as tub and shower surrounds. Porcelain mimics anything, from wood to stone and even leather
- Ceramic tiles. Highly designed, glazed, or unglazed, these are best used for low traffic indoor-only floors, as well as borders, backsplashes, and accent walls
- Mosaics. These are tiny ceramics, often seen on Greek or Roman-style floors. They come in many colors, patterns, and shapes
- Glass. These sparkly jewels reflect light, give an atmosphere of luxury and are durable and easy to clean. They are made from recycled glass which is handcrafted into various shapes and sizes
- Subway tiles. Once only seen as 3X6 all-white rectangles, they are now available in many colors, shapes, and sizes.
